Rock Band Better Than American Idol

Released last month on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and now the PlayStation 2. As a more stripped down version but at least you don't have to pay $399 for a PS3 to play it. The PS2 game includes the same collection of hardware as the last release, and the same core gameplay design. Rock Band is still a lot of fun on the PS2.

If I had a list for Santa it would include Rock Band, two wireless guitars, a drum set, and microphone for my own Rock Band experience. I would probably have to sing and play the guitar, while my buddies play bass guitar and drums. That would be pretty cool!

RedOctane, Activision, and Neversoft Rock!

With original Guitar Hero developer Harmonix off the project and Tony Hawk creators Neversoft now on board, it would be fair to wonder if anything that made the wildly popular rhythm game franchise so awesome would be lost in the shuffle. The good news is that Guitar Hero III is Guitar Hero through and through.

The core gameplay underwent some basic tweaks, and the long and varied tracklist is the best of any game in the series to date. The extreme difficulty of some of the game's more severe songs will challenge the Guitar Hero experts.

Many of the songs in Guitar Hero III are the original songs by the artists, as opposed to covers created for the purposes of the game. The career mode uses the same tiered-unlocking system with encores at the end of each tier.

Mulit-Player Mode
There are also six songs you can unlock only in co-op career, to promote the multi-player mode. The face-off and pro face-off modes from the previous Guitar Hero games return.

Despite increased difficulty and shameless sponsoring, this game still rocks more than the previous installments.

Battlestar Galactica: Cylons Return

Based on a television show that was popular in the 1970s, and later re-released and re-mastered. In 2003 a new version of Battlestar Galactica mini-series graced our TV from the SciFi channel, with much acclaim. Moving to a full TV shows, Galactica moved back into our hearts as our favorite battle in space. Of course a video game had to be made, enter Battlestar Galactica the video game.

Battlestar Galactica is an action-packed space combat game set in the universe of the hugely popular sci-fi television show. Sign up to defend the Galactica, or play as the ruthless Cylons as they seek to remove the human menace from existence. Take part in multiplayer space battles – up to 8 players online – or play through the single-player campaign.

Visit the flight deck to see the ships ready for you to launch against the Cylons. If you are not ready to commit to the Cylon race try a free trial

Overall, this is a good title with a lot of great battle sequences and hours of fun.

Rockstar Games GTA Vice City Stories

Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto game has sold millions of copies, all of them have been critically acclaimed for their innovation and consistent ability to be better than the other “GTA clones”. Back at the end of 2005, Rockstar Games wisely chose to take the GTA series to the PSP with Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. As expected, the game sold like crazy, so a few months later, Rockstar ported the game to the PS2, making sure that those without a PSP got a chance to get into the action as well. Now a year has passed, and the cycle has repeated itself, this time with the world from GTA: Vice City. Rockstar Game’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories is every bit as solid of an experience as its predecessors, but after five GTA games released since 2001, the series is starting to show its age.

Double Fusion: Double the In-Game Ads

Double Fusion, a private company that connects advertisers and video game publishers, plans to roll out new technology on Tuesday to allow advertisers to mount last-minute ad campaigns in games the same way they use spot TV ads.

The technology is set to be shown to developers at the Austin Game Developers Conference in Texas starting on Wednesday.

Game designers now designate and hard-code locations for in-game advertising during the development process. After the coding is completed, advertising content can be changed via an Internet connection, but locations for ads cannot be changed or added.

Double Fusion's new program, called fusion.runtime, separates in-game advertising from the development process, allowing developers to create new placements in completed games, including back catalog titles.

PSP: Wi-Fi Capable

The PSP has built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. Getting our handheld up and running on even a WEP-encrypted home wireless network was a breeze, and the PSP lets you save multiple wireless configurations so that you can connect from multiple locations without repeating the setup procedure each time. Though PSPs purchased before September 2005 were previously limited to WEP encryption, upgrading to v2.0 firmware adds support for the more secure WPA-PSK standard. Once you're Wi-Fi enabled--and you've installed the latest firmware--you can access the Web using the PSP's onboard browser. This slick, nearly full-featured app supports tabbed browsing, Javascript, and CSS, though Flash support is still lacking (read more about the PSP's Web browser).

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - A Modern Classic

Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox was a true modern classic. It featured smooth, challenging gameplay and amazing production values. It was, in short, one of the finest games of its generation. In 2005, its gameplay was reworked and expanded for a second release, Ninja Gaiden Black. And incredibly enough, the third time's the charm. No, Ninja Gaiden Sigma isn't a true next-gen sequel, nor is it a simple port of the Xbox release. But it does add a good deal of new content, both subtle and obvious.

If you're a Ninja Gaiden enthusiast, you'll want to see the new chapters, reworked levels, and slicker graphics. And if for some reason you missed it before, this is a must-play game. The action is intense, focused, and certainly not for the faint of heart. It's also among the most satisfying in all of gaming and remains as awe-inspiring as ever, three years after its original release.

Video Game Advertising

Over the years video game advertising has caught on. Similar to in TV and movie advertising, products and brands is placed within game play.

Whether playing Fight Night or on Second Life, advertising is everywhere. Is this ethical? Advertising to teens and our children. Ads targeted at children were regulated during cartoons on Saturday. Is this the way advertisers will get around this regulation?

Will Second Life catch on? Many early adopters have placed advertising with Second Life. We can only wait and see.
